Comfort & The Root of All Evil

Maybe it was a Walter Mitty kind of moment (because those are actually a real thing, at least for me, nowadays), or perhaps it was just the relatively extreme heat and late afternoon hour. Nevertheless: I was startled from a brief moment of daze, when nearly all at once, I heard the word "Abtreibung" (abortion), followed almost immediately by one woman up and leaving church, rather disrespectfully and full of attitude.

And another.

And likely more behind me out of my view, as I was seated near the front.

So my attention was regained and I listened ever more so closely.

I will paraphase, as this is simply a piece of what I understood from the priest's homily:

Like Adam and Eve in the garden - all sin stems from comfort (or a percieved expectation thereof).

Like a mother killing her child - all sin stems from comfort (or a percieved expectation thereof).

Think of basically any other sin. Comfort (& pride) is always always at the core. It's funny, though, because comfort is the opposite of what we get when we sin. And even more true after death.

The world doesn't need more followers of the popular opinion. Or people who are simply 'open-minded' and up for anything.

The world needs conviction.

And if that makes people upset, so be it.
