Bread for the Hungry

As I still had time before my bus would come, I decided to walk through the Bahnhof, as it is more interesting than a bus stop.

As I exited the Bahnhof and headed toward my stop, I was approached by a young girl, perhaps fifteen years old. She said that she was hungry and just as she began to ask for food, I (quite regretfully and surely out of habit), continued on and replied with an apology that I could not help.

But in that next step I took, I immediately realized that, actually, I could help. She was a young girl, probably of no threat to me. And she asked for food, not money, which I had time to provide for her.

So. As there are many in Germany, I headed into the bakery on the corner, which was a mere ten steps ahead of me. As I waited in line to buy some fresh bread, I anxiously looked out the window to make sure the girl hadn’t left.

Two minutes later the young girl had food and I received a rather sincere thank you. Immediately she hopped on a train and was out of sight.
