A Jet-Lagged Weekend

The absolute sweetest family greeted me upon arrival, helped me get settled in and truly took me under their wing. I could not be more grateful nor feel more at home thanks to them!

My first accommodation, albeit a little on the sketchy side, was in the perfect location along the river with brilliant access to all parts of town.

Obligatory day one snack (meal). Paired with vegan chive cream cheese, it’s a perfect match.

Sophie Scholl. If you don’t know who she was, go look her up. Her radiant conviction and unwavering bravery led her to death. Unjustly. Sophie and her brother wrote and distributed an anti-Hitler paper here at this university in Munich. Their courage is never to be forgotten.

A lovely patio dinner - thin crusted pizza with freshly sliced tomato, garlic and olive oil  • pumpkin seed and vinegared green salad • fresh german asparagus (white and green) • lightly boiled and oiled potatoes • and a warm apple strudel was only a part of the evening. Little boy drawings and honest conversation were the highlights.

A daily challenge: take nice photos without looking terribly much like a tourist.

The university side of town is quite my favorite.

A spicy salad with who knows what. It was nonetheless delicious.

It was one of those memories I consciously locked into my brain. I told myself I would never forget the moment: Dad and I had just arrived in Munich, naturally a bit tired but up for adventure and city exploring. We walked into this church, I grabbed a song book as we sat in a back pew, admiring the beauty. I opened the book, thinking I’d understand something. I think all I got was the word “Gott” / “God.” I, instead, tried to comprehend the magnificence of this church, though as I tend to do, I switched on my camera and took a few shots, unsure of whether or not it was allowed. But through those first hours in Germany, I remember realizing what a time it was to be in Europe with Dad. It was, beyond a doubt, a beautiful time and is still one of my favorite memories.

And. The lovely (I know, I better not wear out that word) entrance to Marienplatz. To the left is a street lined with meat shops, each named after and run by german families.
